A Jack-Dog Smackdown

It is Monday–time for another Shakespearean insult to raise the level of your conversation. Or not.

Today’s insult comes compliments of Doctor Caius, the French physician in The Merry Wives of Windsor:

Scurvy jack-dog priest! (The Merry Wives of Windsor, II.3.31).

It might help to know that a jack-dog is a mongrel. Even without that knowledge, however, anyone who is called a “scurvy jack-dog priest” is likely to feel properly insulted. Or should.
